SURVIVING THE STORM: TOP TIPS FOR STAYING SAFE DURING A DISASTER

TIP #1. STAY INFORMED

  • To get urgent news and sign up for Alert Pinellas, go to pinellacounty.org/emergency.

  • Call the Citizens Information Center (only open during emergencies) at (727) 464-4333.

  • Check with social service agencies and street outreach teams and help spread the word!

TIP #2. GET TO A HURRICANE SHELTER WHEN AN EVACUATION HAS BEEN ORDERED

  • PSTA buses take you to shelters for free during a hurricane evacuation. Meet at the following locations:

    • Clearwater: St. Vincent de Paul, 1345 Park St.

    • St. Petersburg: Salvation Army, 1400 4th St. S. and St. Vincent de Paul, 384 15th St. N

    • Tarpon Springs: The Shepherd Center, 304 S. Pinellas Ave.

  • Or go to any public evacuation shelter.

  • All are welcome. No ID required.

  • Food and water are provided.

  • Buses will stop running when the winds get too strong, so DO NOT wait.

  • Pet-friendly shelters are also available.

TIP #3. SHELTER SPACE IS LIMITED

  • Only bring essential items: sleeping bag, blanket, medications and prescriptions, toiletries, personal hygiene items, important phone numbers, cell phone/charger, change of clothes, reading material, games.

TIP #4. AFTER THE STORM

  • You can ride a bus free of charge to your initial pickup location
